What adds to its beauty are the wooden ceilings and beautifully gilded reredos. There’s also Bom Jesus Basilica Art Gallery on the upper levels of its premises with work by famous Goan painter- Dom Martin.  An important festivity that witnesses tourists from all over the world throng to the church is the Feast of St. Francis Xavier held on 3rd December each year. The body of St. Francis Xavier is exhibited to the general public on this day.

2)    St. Augustine Tower

St. Augustine’s Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site again that was established during the 17th century. The church is built atop Monte Santo which is also known as the holy hill. The church was abandoned during the 1850s and what remains now are the ruins of the ancient church. It makes for a perfect backdrop for clicking pictures. 3)    Aguada Fort

Constructed long back during 1609-12 AD, Fort Aguada is one of the most well-preserved Portuguese monuments that has also featured in many movies such as “ Dil Chahta Hai” and “Rang De Basanti”.  It was established as a barrier to protect Old Goa from attacks by the Dutch and the Marathas. When at the fort, marvel at its serene beauty, spend hours gazing at the Arabian Sea or simply find a corner to read your favorite book. The fort also houses a 13 meter-high lighthouse which is believed to be one of the oldest lighthouses in Asia. It emits light every 7 minutes.
